DESIGNER CLOTHING FOR PETS??

Recently as I picked up my shih tzu Sasha from a grooming and saw that they had put a little jacket on her I pondered why? They have fur and even though she had gotten a trim she is still covered in fur. I do understand that in the winter sometimes it is very cold especially for a little dog and a jacket might be needed. On the other hand I have been guilty of buying her Halloween costumes and Christmas outfits. I used to work at Kohls Department Store and a few years ago even they began selling pet costumes at Halloween along with other human costumes. Every pet store I go into or even Target, KMart and so on all have a line of pet clothing now, sometimes by designer names. I laugh and oh yes I know I am laughing at myself because my daughter and I will actually stop and look at the latest fashions. We now have several outfits for Sasha along with some booties and jewelry and hair ribbons.

We dress her for our enjoyment so we can stand back and say how cute she looks, and she does. It certainly doesn't hurt her but she definitely doesn't like it. Last Christmas it took my daughter 30 minutes to chase her and get her into the costume so we could take pictures. Please understand we love our dog and she is so cute and we would never do anything to hurt her. Still we continue to get accessories for her. When people see her in costume she always gets a wonderful response and gets petted but does she care? I think not. It is for us, it fulfills a part of us that I really don't understand. Does anyone have an explanation for this? If Sasha could speak I think she would say "I love you all thank you for taking care of me but I was born with a coat that goes everywhere with me. Please understand when I am biting you as you are putting this ridiculous thing on me it is my way of politely saying no thanks."
